Quite some time has gone since the start of the Closed Beta and some of you may be interested in what's the plan for 2016. I already received a lot of feedback during the ongoing beta and I'm always happy to receive more feedback. If you want to leave me some feedback, consider dropping me a mail to email@example.com or join the #alwyzon channel on irc.esper.net.
Much of the feedback contained repeating key feature requests and issues, which I wanted to summarize for you, so you see that I'm aware of them and are already working on these issues:
Chat History Search: The most often requested feature was to search the channel and conversations history for keywords or files. This feature was planned since the first days of Alwyzon by mine, however is rather complicated. The key question is, how to display the search results. There are multiple ways this feature can get implemented. The simplest one may be to scroll to the last found result and provide up and down arrows for navigation. A better, but more complicated solution is to display all found results and jump there once you click one of the results.
Browse Channels: Some of you may know the feature from other clients, where you can list all channels of a server and browse them for some new cool channels you want to join. Definitely on my To-Do list and already partially implemented, but yet not linked in the user interface.
WHOIS-Command: More advanced IRC users may known the command
/whoiswhich is not yet supported by Alwyzon. WHOIS displays you all kind of relevant information about an user, like which other channels the user is currently a member of.
File Uploads: I guess nothing needs to be said on that topic. In my perspective it would be nice to have too. But for now, using other services and post the links works too and I better focus on more urgent stuff first.
- Auto-completion for usernames and commands: In fact, no user ever requested this feature, but I still think it would be nice to have. What I'm talking about is some kind of support to start typing an username and press the
TAB-key and Alwyzon autocompletes it to any user in the room. That may be very useful when mentioning long and complicated nick names and may be useful for commands too.
Another important point on my roadmap for 2016 is the launch of a Public Beta and buzzing the social media bell to bring some attention on Alwyzon, but more on that topic in an own post in a few days.
